Xiaomi, Leica partnership confirmed, Xiaomi 12 Ultra with Leica Optimized Cameras May Launch in July

Today, Xiaomi confirmed long-term strategic cooperation with Germany-based camera brand Leica. The two brands will team up to launch a camera-focused flagship phone in July. In all likelihood, this device could be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.

Leica has previously partnered with Huawei and Sharp, and now it is all set to join forces with Xiaomi. Xiaomi has confirmed that it is working with Leica, but it hasn’t said anything about the details of the flagship phone they are working on. The phone is confirmed to come out in July.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Leica will offer hardware and algorithm level optimization on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Some reports have claimed that it will be equipped with a 1-inch Sony IMX800 sensor or the Sony IMX989 lens. The 50-megapixel (main) + 48-megapixel (ultrawide) + 48-megapixel triple camera unit, which was made available on the MI 11 Ultra last year, is likely to be inherited by the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra could be the company’s first phone to feature the recently unveiled Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The device is speculated to feature a 6.73-inch AMOLED panel with LTPO 2.0 technology. It is expected to arrive with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, Quad HD+ resolution, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. For selfies, it may come equipped with a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 selfie camera.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra may come with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It may run on the Android 12 OS overlaid with MIUI 13. It may come with an IP68-certified dustproof and water-resistant body. The SoC of the device could be coupled with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
