Apple and Samsung are still struggling to embed under-display fingerprint sensor in their flagship phones for this year. However, Chinese manufacturers have already launched smartphones with under-display fingerprint reader in the recent months. Vivo APEX, Vivo X21 UD and Vivo X20 UD are three Vivo phones that are equipped with this new biometric identification technology. Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design premium flagship has a conventional fingerprint scanner on the rear as well as an under-display fingerprint reader. It seems that the next Chinese smartphone OEM to use this advanced technology is Xiaomi because is CEO Lei Jun has confirmed on Weibo that the Mi 7 will be coming with an under-display fingerprint reader.
On the official Weibo account of Xiaomi, the company has added teardown images of the Mi MIX 2S. One of the commenters have stated that the upcoming Mi 7 may come with under-display fingerprint reader. Lei Jun quickly responded to him by saying that the Mi 7 really features it.
Recently leaked firmware files of the alleged Mi 7 Plus phone that is codenamed has revealed that it may arrive with an under-display fingerprint reader. However, the firmware files of Mi 7 that is codenamed as Dipper does not include any clue about the inclusion of the advanced biometric recognition feature. Hence, it is speculated that only the Mi 7 Plus will feature it. The Mi 7 duo are speculated to debut in June this year.
