All the fuss about the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone was laid to rest a few days when the company launched the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. These devices were much anticipated thus we expect them to make a blistering performance in the smartphone market. The Xiaomi Mi 8 comes in three variants which include the 6GB+64GB version, 6GB+128GB and 6GB+256GB version which sells for 2699 Yuan ($422), 2999 Yuan ($469), and 3299 Yuan ($516) respectively. The first official sale of this smartphone took place earlier today at Jingdong and Xiaomi Mall by 10 am and the sales result is astonishing.
Well, it didn’t take long for the company to announce that the three variant of the Mi 8 is out of stock. In about 97 seconds after the official sales commenced, Xiaomi took to its official website to announce that the sale is over and the next round of sales will be on June 12. The company was not specific as to the number of units produced but judging from Lei Jun’s previous statement, the company made hundreds of thousands of units and they all sold out in seconds. This is the highest ever production scale for a Xiaomi flagship device. It is not surprising that this smartphone performed so well in its first sale because it combines style and budget.
Just like many other Android 2018 flagships, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and early reports on its camera performance from trusted DxOMark camera rating shows that this smartphone performs better than the iPhone X with a still image rating of 105 and total rating of 99. There are only a few devices that perform better. However, the major selling point of this smartphone is its use of a dual-frequency GPS with accurate precision positioning making it the first smartphone in the world to do so.
