This year, Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, released the Xiaomi Mi 8 series. This series is supposed to be a flagship series. However, there are some smartphones in this series like the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite which can best be described as a quasi-flagship. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite uses a mid-range chip (SD660) but its design, appearance and a few other features are flagship-grade. When the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite was released on September 19, it has the Gold and Gradient Dream Blue version and it became the first gradient color mobile phone of Xiaomi. Now, the company has revealed that the gradient rear of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is, in fact, transparent.
This is quite surprising because it beats many’s imagination how a gradient rear achieved transparency. In a video released earlier today, the company shows that the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite gradient rear is a layer of transparent glass which gets its gradient colour when it comes in contact with a specially designed subsurface.
How does a transparent glass achieve colorful hues? Xiaomi said that the engineer passed through a number of layers of coating, forming a nano-scale thickness difference on the surface of the transparent glass body, after the light hits the top, the scattering between the layers of different thickness coatings finally made the transparent glass plate become the gradient color body of Dream Blue and Dawning Gold. Xiaomi mobile phone also said that if you don’t believe it, you can remove the back cover of the youth version to see if it is transparent. Of course, it is definitely not recommended.
