Xiaomi Mi 8 with Notched Display, Snapdragon 845 and Infrared Camera for 2,699 Yuan

Xiaomi has today launched three smartphones namely, Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 SE through a launch event in China. The Mi 8 is the first notched display smartphone from the company. It is fueled by Snapdragon 845 and it is with the best dual camera smartphones ever on a Xiaomi phone.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Specifications and Features

Xiaomi Mi 8 features a glass and metal combination chassis and it houses a 6.21-inch S-AMOLED display. The screen supports 18.7:9 aspect ratio, FHD+ resolution, DCI-P3 color gamut, up to 600-nits brightness, 88.5 percent screen-to-body ratio and HDR support.

The Snapdragon 845 chipset powers the Xiaomi Mi 8. The handset comes in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB storage models and each one of them features 6 GB of RAM. There is no microSD card slot on the phone. The Quick Charge 4+ enabled 3,400mAh battery is present inside the phone to keep the lights on. The infrared lens present in the notch of the Mi 8 enables Infrared facial recognition. The back panel of the phone features a fingerprint reader.

The dual camera setup on Mi 8 includes Sony IMX363 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and Samsung S5K3M3 12-megapixel secondary telephoto lens. The camera features available on the phone include 4-axis OIS, optical zoom, dual pixel autofocus, AI studio lighting, AI scene detection and video editing. The 20-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture is present at the front of the phone. It is equipped with features like AI Beauty, HDR and portrait mode.

Apart from the usual connectivity features like 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G VoLTE and NFC, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with dual-band GPS. The new feature enables highly accurate GPS navigation.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pricing and Availability

The 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB Xiaomi Mi 8 variants are respectively priced at 2,699 Yuan (~$421), 2,999 Yuan (~$468) and 3,299 Yuan (~$515). Its pre-orders have already started in China and its shipments will begin on June 4. Its color variants include Black, Gold, Blue and White.
