Xiaomi has just unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, both powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in the Chinese market. This powerful processor is also expected to drive the upcoming Redmi K70 Pro. While the standard Redmi K70 is rumored to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a chipset that powered many Android flagship phones in 2022, a Chinese leaker suggests that Xiaomi will be expanding its use of the SD8G2 across more devices in the future.
According to the tipster, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will also power Xiaomi’s tablets and a small foldable phone. Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro and Pad 6 Max equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset this year. It is likely that the successor editions, such as the Pad 7 Pro and Pad 7 Max, may arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
The small foldable phone that the leaker seems to be talking about appears to be the Xiaomi MIX Flip, which is expected to launch in the first half of 2024. While competitor brands Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, Honor, OPPO, and Vivo have already launched flip-style foldable phones, Xiaomi is yet to launch such a device.
So far, the rumor mill has not revealed many details about the Xiaomi MIX Flip. As per a recent report, the device has the 2311BPN23C model number for the Chinese variant. It appears that there may not be a global version of the device.
Some reports say that Xiaomi’s sub-brand may also launch a flip-style foldable phone. However, there are no details available about this device, but considering that it will have a Redmi branding, it could be an affordable offering.
