Today through Weibo, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be debuting a new Redmi smartphone on Jan. 10. What’s interesting about this launch is that it will be first Redmi phone from an independent Redmi brand.
Xiaomi has been selling high-end smartphones with Mi moniker such as Mi MIX, Mi Max, Mi 8 and so on and it has been using the Redmi brand for selling cost-effective smartphones. Huawei has Honor working as a separate brand while the Realme is the independent brand OPPO. In the same way, Xiaomi is spinning off the Redmi brand. It will be announcing a new Redmi phone with 48-megapixel rear camera on Jan. 10. The event will begin at 2 PM in Beijing, China.
Xiaomi did not share any information on the other specifications of the smartphone. Rumors are rife that the Redmi Pro 2 will be the name of the device that will be announced on Jan. 10. It is speculated to debut as the first Snapdragon 675 chipset driven smartphone. Rumors are rife that the handset could be equipped with a waterdrop notch screen like the recently released Xiaomi Mi Play smartphone. There is no confirmation on whether it will be featuring 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor or Samsung Bright GM1 sensor.
