Recently, there seems to be a growing “arm race” between smartphone makers who are jostling to introduce the fastest-charging solution for their smartphone.
Just yesterday, OPPO’s VP Brian Shen had teased on his Chinese Weibo microblog that the company will be rolling out an upgraded version of their current 50W Super VOOC charging which is capable of fueling the cell from 0 to 100% within a short span of 35 minutes. The upgraded Super VOOC is said to arrive with a 80W power rating according to reports.
Now, Xiaomi had also joined in the party by announcing that the company will be unveiling the Mi Charge Turbo fast-charging solution during a press event on September 9th.
From Xiaomi’s Weibo post, it seems to hint that the Mi Charge Turbo will be a new wireless charging solution for some of their upcoming smartphones. Currently, Xiaomi’s Max Turbo wireless charging supports only 20W power output which is still trailing behind traditional wired charging in terms of speed.
Perhaps, for the upcoming Mi Charge Turbo, we could see a higher power output which will far exceeds 20W. This isn’t anything surprising given that the Chinese smartphone maker had already demoed it’s 100W wired charging solution back in March this year.
