Xiaomi is gearing up for their massive product launch event on March 29th, where the company had already confirmed to be launching a wide range of smartphones including the Xiaomi Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro, as well as the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi Mix series flagship.
Right now, Xiaomi further revealed that the company will also be launching their new in-house Surge chipset during the upcoming event as well. For those who may not know, Xiaomi officially announced their first in-house chipset known as the Surge S1 back in January 2017, and was subsequently used in the Xiaomi Mi 5C.
However, their previous endeavour in chipset production was rather short-lived as the company has yet to announce any new chipset for more than three years following the launch of the Surge S1.
At the moment, there’s no words whether the upcoming Surge chipset will be targeted towards the mid-ranger or higher-end segment. But whatever it is, it definitely helps to address the dire issue of chip shortage in the smartphone market, which would otherwise result in more expensive smartphones.
Most importantly, the launch of the new in-house chip also reduce the company’s reliance on major chip maker in the market like Qualcomm and MediaTek.
