Following the footprints of Xiaomi, Chinese smartphone maker Realme may soon be showing content recommendation (i.e. adverts) on their smartphones.
According to Realme, smartphones running on ColorOS 6 and above will receive an update which will enable content recommendation on the device. These content recommendation is said to “promote apps and commercial links”.
At the initial stage, the recommended contents will only appear in two places – the Phone Manager app and the Security Check page after the installation of new apps.
Realme made it clear that the content recommendation system will “ensure protection of your privacy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations”.
However, in order not to deteriorate the user experience of Realme smartphone users, the company has chose to allow users to disable the content recommendation feature easily.
To turn off content recommendation, simply head down to Settings > Additional Settings > Content Recommendation, and toggle off the feature.
By default, the content recommendation feature will be turned on automatically on Realme smartphones after the update. So do ensure you disable them as soon as possible if you ain’t a fan of such feature.
From Realme’s perspective, such feature is important in maintaining a healthy and sustainable business model. Perhaps, that’s one of the effective way for the company to continue offering affordable smartphones for their growing user base.
