ZTE Axon 20 5G officially announced with headlining under-display camera

Since last year, we have been hearing a great deal about smartphones with under display selfie cameras. OPPO and Xiaomi are among the pioneer batch of OEMs which are already working actively on such technologies.

Surprisingly, they aren’t the first in the world to launch a commercially available smartphone with under-display cameras. That’s because the Axon 20 5G launched by Chinese telecommunication giant ZTE today, is officially the first smartphone in the world to feature the headline-grabbing under-display camera.

Apparently, the under-display camera is made possible through the implementation of a unique film developed by organic and inorganic materials which allows light to reach the inner camera as it is highly transmissible in nature.

Next, it also has a color synchronization technology which ensures that the front display does not interfere or affect the inner camera when light passes through it. Other than that, ZTE also said that the pixel arrangement around the inner camera lens has been rejigged, and there is also a custom algorithm which aims to optimize and enhance the image.

Courtesy of the innovative under-display camera technology, the ZTE Axon 20 is able to flaunt an unblemished 6.92-inches OLED display with FHD+ screen resolution. On top of that, the front display also has a smooth 90Hz screen refresh rate, an impressive 240Hz touch sampling rate, as well as support for an in-display fingerprint scanner.

On the flip-side, the ZTE Axon 20 comes with a rectangular camera housing which play host to a quad-cameras system alongside a LED flash. These cameras include a 64 megapixels primary shooter, 8 megapixels ultra-wide lens, 2 megapixels macro shooter, as well as a 2 megapixels depth helper.

Under the hood, the ZTE Axon 20 is driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 765G chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage. Other than that, the device is also fitted with a respectable 4,220mAh battery that carries support for 30W fast-charging. As usual, it will run on the custom MiFavor 10.5 based on Android 10 OS.

For those who’re interested, the ZTE Axon 20 will be available in four different colorways including Black, White, Purple and Orange. The device will be priced at 2,198 Yuan (US$322) and 2,498 Yuan (US$366) for its 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB models. There’s also an even higher-end model with 8GB+256GB memory configuration which will set you back with 2,798 Yuan (US$410).
