Alleged Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Has Received FCC Approval

Sony’s press conference at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech expo will take place on Feb. 26. Through the MWC 2018 event, the company is expected to announce Xperia XZ Pro and Xperia XZ2 flagship smartphones. Today, a mysterious smartphone from the company that seems to be sporting a form factor for a 5-inch display has been approved by Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Hence, the rumor mill is now claiming that the company may debut the alleged Xperia XZ2 Compact at MWC 2018.

According to the FCC filing of a Sony phone with FCC ID PY7-24118Q, its dimensions are 135 x 65 mm. The Sony Xperia UL smartphone featuring a 5-inch display was launched in 2013 measured 135 x 71mm. Hence, the form factor of the PY7-24118Q smartphone seems to be suitable enough to house a 5-inch display.

Rumors have it that that mysterious 5-inch smartphone from Sony could be the Xperia XZ2 Compact. Since the Xperia XZ Pro and Xperia XZ2 are rumored to arrive with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen, the alleged XZ2 Compact is also expected to house a display same aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 4 GB RAM may power the handset. Other specs may include 19-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera, Android 8.0 Oreo, 64 GB of native storage and 3,000 Yuan. It may cost around 4,999 Yuan (~$792).
