All the brouhaha surrounding Xiaomi’s flagships will soon be laid to rest as the company confirms that it will be holding a launch event in Shenzhen on May 31. Xiaomi has since hinted that this event is to hold at the end of May but there was no specific date. From the invite which confirmed the May 31st date, the company did not say much but it is obvious that the Xiaomi Mi 8 or the Xiaomi 8th anniversary phone will be the center of attraction of this event.
As of now, a couple of details regarding this smartphone is still missing. It is not certain what this device will be called for sure. While some say it is the Xiaomi Mi 7 8th anniversary version, some believe that it is the Xiaomi Mi 8 outrightly. But we will surely confirm this in about a week. At the event, Xiaomi will not only unveil its flagship smartphone, the company is also expected to launch other products like the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 which has been in the news for many weeks.
Looking at the details of the Xiaomi Mi 8 from the speculations so far, this will be one of the most attractive phones in recent times. For starters, it uses a 3D structured light technology which means that it is equipped with an iPhone X-like facial recognition. Not many phones have this feature because it is so safe and it can be used for financial transactions. In addition, this phone is also scheduled to come with an on-screen fingerprint sensor which is also found in a few devices as of now. That’s not all, it will use an AI camera with 2X optical zoom and according to the recent 3C and FCC listings, the Xiaomi Mi 8 will come in two variants with support for 5V/3A, 9V/, A and 12V/1.5A charging. Interestingly, all these features will sell for not more than $500.
