Redmi’s 64MP Camera Phone in Works; First Camera Sample Released

Recently, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing had claimed that he would be sharing information on some of the upcoming products today. At 10AM China time, Lu Weibing took to Weibo to share the first camera sample of a 64-megapixel camera phone. This suggests that Redmi could end up as the first company to launch a 64-megapixel camera phone.

The official sample shared by Redmi shows the clarity of the image. Even after zooming into the eye of the cat, the zoomed portion maintains rich details. After zooming, the cat’s eyes and hair are clearly visible. The size of the image is 19.3MB and its resolution is 9248 x 6936 pixels.

Samsung had recently launched ISOCELL GW1 64-megapixel camera lens. Hence, it goes without saying that the mysterious Redmi phone will be sporting the Samsung camera sensor. Shown below is the camera app of the mysterious phone showing the “64M” option for snapping 64-megapixel shots.

In the first half of the year, Redmi released various kinds of smartphones from entry-level to flagship. Hence, it remains to be seen which camera phone from Redmi will be sporting the new 64-megapixel camera lens. In June, Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth had teased a 64-megapixel camera sample. It belonged to a mysterious Realme with four rear-mounted cameras. Other brands are also expected to launch 64-megapixel camera phone later this year. It remains to be seen which brand will manage to launch the world’s first 64-megapixel camera smartphone.
