At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, Vivo has showcased its first commercial phone that features Clear ID under-display fingerprint scanner by Synaptics. The name and specifications of the smartphone is not known. However, Vivo’s senior VP Alex Feng confirmed that the smartphone would be announced at the beginning of this year. Hence, it is speculated that the smartphone may get unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 that will be held in February at Barcelona, Spain. Below are the images of the mythical Vivo phone that will be featuring an under-display fingerprint reader.
The mysterious handset has an OLED display and the fingerprint scanner is placed between OLED panel and the layer of glass that lies over it. When the finger is touched on the area of the display where the fingerprint scanner is present, the fingerprint mark will automatically illuminate on the OLED panel.
It is speculated that the mysterious smartphone could be a modified edition of Vivo X20 Plus that has recently been certified in China. Moreover, the above images also show that the smartphone resembles the Vivo X20 Plus albeit the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The speed of the response of the fingerprint scanner seems to be an issue of concern as it is around 0.6 to 0.7 seconds. It is fast but a bit slower than the traditional fingerprint scanner. Vivo has also confirmed that the technology is so advanced that it can be used for authenticating payments through WeChat, AliPay, etc and the possibility of it going wrong is one in 50,000.
