Xiaomi May Give Up Fingerprint Scanning on its Phones, New Smartphones to Feature Facial Recognition

The Apple iPhone X that was unveiled in September arrived as the first phone from the coming to arrive with Face ID, the 3D facial recognition feature. Since the Cupertino company included the Face ID feature on iPhone X, it had axed the Touch ID fingerprint scanning feature. The future iPhones are likely to come without Touch ID sensor as they are rumored to be equipped with Face ID. Fresh information coming from China states that even Xiaomi (often referred to as China’s Apple) will be walking on the same as the Cupertino company as it is rumored to give up fingerprint scanner on its smartphones in favor of the facial recognition feature.

Apple’s Face ID is highly robust thanks to the TrueDepth camera system that can scan the face user in 3D to authenticate the unlocking of iPhone X. Some of the Android phones such as the OnePlus 5T also feature facial recognition feature, but they are inferior to Face ID from Apple. Most of the Android phones that offer facial recognition allow users to scan face in 2D. Hence, there is no confirmation on what sort of technology will Xiaomi use for its face scanning feature.

Xiaomi Mi 7 is speculated to arrive as the first phone from the company with face scanning technology. It is rumored to feature full screen design, Snapdragon 845 chipset and wireless charging.
