Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition is an advanced version of the Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone. It is essentially packed with the same specs as the Mi 8 but comes with more RAM and unmatched features like in-screen fingerprint scanner, 3D facial recognition and an attractive translucent chassis.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition has the same dimensions as the Mi 8 phone but comes with a translucent rear that shows the internal components of the phone. The notch of the phone houses a selfie camera, dot matrix projector, flood illuminator and infrared lens which makes it possible to make a 3D depth map of the user by detecting 33,000 points on the face. The infrared lens also captures the image of the face. Both the data are merged and verified with the stored face data. It all happens in a fraction of a second. Like the iPhone X, the Face ID feature on the Mi 8 Explorer edition has a chance of failing once in million attempts.

It features a pressure sensitive sensor that requires a gently to authenticate and unlock the phone. It is also equipped with dual-frequency GPS.
