Kirin 990 will be Officially Announced on September 6th

Huawei has a tradition of unveiling their latest high-end Kirin SoC during the third quarter of the year. Last year, the company announced the Kirin 980 SoC on August 31st during the IFA 2018 event. This year of course, is no exception to the company’s long standing tradition.

According to Huawei, the company will officially announce their latest Kirin 990 SoC on September 6th during the IFA event held in Berlin. To mark this special day, Huawei has also released a short video teaser which teases on the chip’s 5G capabilities.

Although there isn’t much information revealed in the teaser, but speculations have pointed out that the upcoming Kirin 990 SoC may saw an integration of the 5G modem directly into the chip.

Other than having an improved power efficiency, the new Kirin 990 SoC will finally come with support for 4K recording at 60fps. This was recently confirmed by Neowin.

If nothing goes wrong, the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to be the pioneer batch of smartphones which will be driven by the Snapdragon 990 SoC. Although not officially confirmed, but many reports which have suggested that the Mate 30 series will make it’s debut in September next month.
