In the past, Huawei used to discourage unlocking of bootloader due to possible security risks for the users. However, their stance has now changed a little for the Mate 30 Pro, possibly due to the omission of pre-loaded Google apps and services on the device as a result of the ongoing US trade ban.
According to Huawei’s CEO, Richard Yu, the company has now decided to leave more freedom for the consumers, so that they can do more customization by themselves. This could be one of the possible workarounds on the table, which eventually allows users to have access to Google Play apps and services on the device.
This is significance due to the fact that having an unlocked bootloader simply makes it easier for users to sideload Google Play apps and services onto the device, than it otherwise would. This is usually done by first installing a custom ROM on the device, and then install GApps package on the device.
However, at this point of time, it is not known whether the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will has it’s bootloader unlocked out of the box, or there are specific and clear instructions which guide the users on this matter.
For now, let’s wait for more official details to surface regarding the unlocking of bootloader for the Mate 30 Pro. Whatever it is, it’s definitely great to see more potential workarounds to bring those crucial apps and services to the device.
