According to DigiTimes, sources at Taiwan’s handset supply chain had told them that “sales of Huawei’s smartphones in China are expected to experience steep drops as the outbreak has faltered business activities and crippled sales channels in the country”.

Majority of the sales channels in China were said to be affected by the widespread transport curbs and tough public health measures. As a result, Huawei’s smartphone shipments in China are expected to fall by 5-8 million units in Q1, 2020.

The same report also noted that other Chinese smartphone OEMs including Xiaomi and OPPO are also likely to be affected by the current situation in China.

However, Huawei is expected to suffer the most in terms of smartphone shipments due to the whopping market share. Moreover, the ongoing US trade ban also caused the firm to rely heavily on the domestic market.

Therefore, overall smartphone shipments for Huawei is likely to see a decline during the first quarter of the year.
