Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus & S20 Ultra goes official

The wait is over! During the Unpacked event held in San Francisco, Samsung has finally took the wrap off the feverishly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, as well as S20 Ultra flagship devices.

In short, these devices are likely to be the key highlights for 2020. In terms of designs, specs and features, the Galaxy S20 flagship series is indeed compelling across all metrics.

As usual, the Galaxy S20 lineup continue to impress with their camera prowess and is ready to bring it to the next level this time round.

It’s worth nothing that all three devices are be 5G-enabled smartphones which are capable of supporting both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes. In the European markets however, there will be 4G models offered for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy S20

First and foremost, let’s start with the most basic model – Galaxy S20. The device sports a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with 1440 x 3200 pixels screen resolution. It has a nice-looking 20:9 tall aspect ratio, and supports up to 120Hz refresh rate (up to FHD resolution).

The Galaxy S20 is driven by Samsung’s flagship-grade Exynos 990 SoC under the hood. In the memory compartment, it will be quipped with 8GB worth of RAM and 128GB native storage space which is further expandable via it’s dedicated microSDXC slot.

Moving on to it’s camera, the Galaxy S20 touts a triple-camera setup on it’s rear panel. This comprises of a 12 megapixels (f/1.8 aperture) main shooter, 64 megapixels (f/2.0 aperture) telephoto lens, as well as a 12 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens.

It is capable of supporting up to 3x hybrid zoom, and as much as 30x Super Resolution Zoom. There will also be support for 8K video recording as well. At the front, there will be a 10 megapixels selfie camera located within it’s hole-punched compartment.

The Galaxy S20 is fueled by a hefty 4,000mAh battery which support 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. It will run on the latest One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 out of the box.

The device is offered in 3 different color options including Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud Pink.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

The Galaxy S20 Plus comes with pretty much similar specs as the Galaxy S20 aside from it’s display size, camera specs, as well as battery capacity.

Unlike the vanilla model, the Galaxy S20 Plus has a slightly larger display measuring 6.7-inches diagonally. It’s screen resolution and refresh rates however, remain unchanged.

As for it’s rear camera, there will be a total of four sensors instead of three. This is due to the additional DepthVision camera on the Galaxy S20 Plus. Other than that, the rest of the sensors are the same as the Galaxy S20.

Needless to say, “Plus” model also has a larger battery capacity which stood at 4,500mAh. However, it will continue to support the same charging rate as the vanilla model.

The device will be available in Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue and Cosmic Black.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

As it’s name suggests, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is the highest-end model among the trio.

No doubt, having a beefier specs comes with a price too. In comparison to the other Galaxy S20 siblings, the S20 Ultra is comparatively bulkier and heavier. It features a huge 6.9-inches display and weighs approximately 222 grams. The Galaxy S20 Plus in comparison, only weighs 186 grams.

The key highlights of the Galaxy S20 ultra lies in it’s camera compartment. Unlike the other S20 devices, the S20 Ultra boast an upgraded quad-camera setup on it’s rear that comprises of a 108 megapixels (f/1.8 aperture) main shooter, 48 megapixels (f/3.6 aperture) periscope camera, 12 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens, as well as a VGA depth sensor.

It’s rear camera beats the competition with the highly rated 10x hybrid zoom and it’s insane 100x Super Resolution Zoom. For the 108 megapixels main shooter, it utilizes a 9-in-1 pixel binning technology to capture 12 megapixels photography that produces high quality low-light shots. To take things further, it also features optical image stabilizer (OIS) as well.

Moving on to it’s selfie camera, the Galaxy S20 Ultra employs a 40 megapixels sensor which make use of 4-in-1 pixel binning to generate 10 megapixels selfie shots. In fact, this is the “highest resolution” dedicated selfie camera we’d seen among the current flagship phones.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S20 Ultra will be fueled by a mammoth 5,000mAh battery which supports up to 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. However, the charger accompanying the device only support 25W wired charging, so users will have to purchase the 45W charger separately.

For those who’re interested, the Galaxy S20 Ultra will be offered in two color options including Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black.
