Samsung & Huawei leads Q1 2020 in 5G smartphone shipments

According to a new report by Strategy Analytics, global 5G smartphone shipments in Q1 2020 alone had far exceeded the total number of 5G smartphones shipped in the entire 2019. In Q1 2020, it was estimated that a total of 24.1 million 5G smartphones were shipped globally.

The report noted that China has the highest demand for 5G smartphones, but demand in other markets including South Korea, US and European countries are also rising.

Among the 5G smartphone makers, Samsung has recorded the highest 5G smartphone shipments in Q1 2020 with an impressive figure of 8.3 millions. This equates to a 34.4% global 5G smartphone market share.

Samsung’s success was owed to the company’s strong global distribution networks and operator partnerships. Moreover, the company’s latest 5G smartphone offerings including the Galaxy S20 flagship series is also a key contributing factor.

Huawei on the other hand, had secured a total of 8 million smartphone shipments and an overall market share of 33.2%. Since the Huawei P40 flagship series was announced on March 26th, it will not be included in this figure.

Sitting in the third to fifth positions are none other than Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO which have recorded a market share of 12%, 10.4% and 5% respectively.
