What’s new on the Snapdragon 865+?

Just like last year’s Snapdragon 855+, the new Snapdragon 865+ chipset will be an update to the Snapdragon 865 platform. It will continue to maintain an octa-core architecture manufactured via a 7nm process. However, its Cortex A77 prime core will feature a higher clocked rate of 3.1GHz, up from just 2.84GHz on the Snapdragon 865. This means that the Snapdragon 865+ will be the first mobile silicon to finally edge past the 3GHz mark.

Other than that, the other three Cortex A77 big cores will maintain the same 2.42GHz clock rate, while the other four Cortex A55’s clock rate will also remain unchanged at 1.8GHz. In its graphics department, Qualcomm claims that the updated Adreno 650 GPU is able to deliver 10% faster graphic rendering than the vanilla Snapdragon 865 as well.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 865+ platform will utilize the new FastConnect 6900 System which carries support for Wi-Fi 6E that will extend Wi-Fi into the 6GHz spectrum. It promises a faster mobile speed of up to 3.6Gps, as well as an incredibly low latency.

What are the devices which will be shipped with Snapdragon 865+?

As of now, only two flagship devices had been confirmed to arrive with the new Snapdragon 865+ platform. These devices include the upcoming Lenovo Legion gaming flagship, as well as the ASUS ROG Phone 3 powerhouse which will debut on July 22nd.
