HONOR X9e Pro Review: A Bigger Idea of Everyday Power

The HONOR X9e Pro is the kind of smartphone that makes you rethink what really matters in a daily driver. At S$499, it doesn’t try to compete purely on raw specifications, but instead puts its focus on things that can genuinely make a difference over time — a massive 11,000mAh battery, an exceptionally tough build, a bright AMOLED display and a capable 108MP camera. After spending time with plenty of more expensive smartphones, I found this approach rather refreshing because the X9e Pro feels designed around real-world convenience instead of simply chasing headline numbers.

The design is surprisingly refined considering just how much hardware HONOR has managed to pack inside. Measuring 162.2 x 77 x 8.08mm and weighing around 203g, the X9e Pro still maintains a relatively manageable profile despite housing that enormous battery. It comes in four colours — Royal Purple, Midnight Black, Dawn Gold and Reddish Brown — with each giving the phone its own personality. I particularly like that HONOR has managed to balance its rugged credentials with a design that doesn’t scream “rugged phone”. It looks much closer to a conventional premium smartphone, yet underneath that understated exterior is a device engineered to withstand far more demanding conditions.

The 6.8-inch AMOLED display is one area where the X9e Pro punches above its S$499 price tag. It features a 1.5K screen resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut and up to 10,000 nits peak brightness under specific conditions. In everyday use, I found the large panel particularly enjoyable for watching videos, browsing and simply getting things done, while the high refresh rate keeps scrolling feeling fluid. HONOR has also loaded it with a comprehensive suite of eye-comfort features, including 3840Hz PWM dimming, AI Defocus Display and AI Circadian Night Display. Compared with many more expensive mid-range phones, the sheer amount of attention given to the display is hard to ignore.

Under the hood, the HONOR X9e Pro runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. HONOR’s Hummingbird Architecture 2.0 and RAM Turbo technology further help keep things running smoothly, and that certainly matched my experience. Whether I was switching between apps, browsing, scrolling through social media or streaming videos, the phone kept pace without making me wait around. It may not have the raw horsepower of a flagship, but for my everyday usage, I found the performance more than sufficient —and there’s something particularly satisfying when that smooth experience is backed by a battery this big.

The 11,000mAh silicon-carbon battery is where the X9e Pro really changes the game for me. I’m used to keeping an eye on my battery percentage throughout the day, especially when I’m out taking photos or spending plenty of time on social media, but I found myself doing that far less with this phone. There’s simply a lot of battery to work with, and that gave me the freedom to use the X9e Pro much more casually without constantly planning my next charging stop. With 80W HONOR SuperCharge and 27W reverse charging also onboard, it’s not just about lasting longer — it’s about making the phone considerably easier to live with.

Naturally, that extra freedom made me want to explore the camera more. The X9e Pro packs a 108MP main camera with OIS alongside a 5MP wide-angle shooter, and I found the main camera particularly enjoyable for everyday photography.

Shots come out with plenty of detail and a pleasing amount of contrast, while OIS helps keep things steady when I’m shooting handheld. Along with extra features such as the Underwater Camera Mode, the X9e Pro feels like a surprisingly fun photography companion for a S$499 smartphone.

Durability is arguably where the HONOR X9e Pro separates itself most clearly from more conventional smartphones. It carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, with HONOR claiming 10-metre submersion resistance under controlled testing, while its drop-resistant construction is rated for drops from up to three metres in specified conditions. There is also SGS five-star drop-resistance certification, alongside a new bumper architecture designed to reduce the risk of screen damage. Naturally, these laboratory ratings do not make the phone indestructible. Still, having this level of protection on a S$499 smartphone gives me considerably more confidence when taking it outdoors or simply using it without constantly worrying about every little accident.

Taking everything into account, the HONOR X9e Pro is an interesting example of how a more affordable smartphone can stand out without trying to imitate a flagship in every category. While it may not deliver the same level of raw performance or camera versatility as considerably more expensive models, its combination of an 11,000mAh battery, 10,000-nit AMOLED display, 108MP OIS camera and genuinely rugged construction gives it a personality of its own. For me, that’s ultimately what makes the X9e Pro appealing at S$499: it focuses on the things that can make everyday ownership easier, while adding a level of durability and endurance that we don’t see often enough in this segment.

For those who’re interested, the HONOR X9e Pro is available for purchase in Singapore via HONOR Experience Stores, HONOR’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, selected retail partners including Harvey Norman, Best Denki, Courts, Gain City, Challenger, Popular, Krisshop and telco partners.
