In August, Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi MI 10 Ultra flagship phone which arrived with 120W fast charging support. On the wireless charging front, the device came with 50W charging support. The technology can charge the 4,500mAh battery of the Mi 10 Ultra in 40 minutes. It was bettered by OPPO’s 65W AirVOOC charger that can charge a 4,000mAh battery phone in just 30 minutes. Today, Xiaomi made an official announcement on its 80W wireless charging technology. The new tech can charge a 4,000mAh battery smartphone in just 19 minutes.
Xiaomi has released a video that shows the 80W wireless charging technology in action. According to the Chinese firm, it can charge a 4,000mAh battery to 10 precent in 1 minute and 50 percent in just 8 minutes. A full charge can be achieved in only 19 minutes. In comparison, the 30W wireless charging technology that Xiaomi announced last year could fully power a similar battery in 69 minutes.
There is no confirmation on the name of the first Xiaomi phone that will be arriving with the 80W wireless charging technology. It seems that the feature could be reserved for a 2021 flagship phone.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S that debuted in April 2018 was the first phone from the brand to support wireless charging technology. It supported only a 7.5W charging rate. The Mi MIX 3 arrived with 10W charging and the charging speeds were doubled to 20W on the Xiaomi Mi 9 series last year.
It remains to be seen whether the 80W wireless charging technology is made available on the Xiaomi Mi 11 / Mi 20 flagship phone that is expected to debut in Q1 next year. It goes without saying that the upcoming Snapdragon 875 chipset will be at the helm of the device. At present, there is no word on the other specs of the phone.
