Huawei’s Patent Filing Reveals a Phone with In-Display Selfie Camera

Last year, ZTE became the first brand to launch a smartphone with in-display selfie camera. Recent reports have revealed that Xiaomi and Samsung are going to launch their first smartphones with under-display camera in the next few months.

Last year in December, Huawei filed a design patent with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) for a mysterious phone with an in-screen camera. A new report by LetsGoDigital revealed that the patent was published today (July 9) through which the phone’s design has been revealed.

The publication claims that patent filling has several models with almost identical designs. It has created a render of the phone based on the patent documentation. As can be seen, the device flaunts an impressive full-screen design on the front as its features ultra-thin bezels and an in-display selfie camera.

The right side of the phone is fitted with two buttons. Its top edge has a 3.5mm audio jack and a microphone, whereas its bottom features a speaker grille, a USB-C port, a microphone, and a SIM card slot.

The back panel of the phone features an oval-shaped camera housing that includes a vertically aligned triple camera unit and an LED flash. The renders show two types of camera design, one of which has the triple cameras on the left side of camera island, while the other one shows the cameras towards the center of the camera housing.

The overall design of the phone suggests that Huawei may use the design on an upper mid-range phone, and not a flagship. With brands like Xiaomi and Samsung gearing up to launch first phones with in-display camera, it may not take much time for Huawei to bring its first phone with in-screen camera to the market.
