iQOO 9, 9 Pro to be World’s First Phones with Samsung GN5 Camera

On Jan. 5, iQOO will be announcing the iQOO 9 and iQOO 9 Pro in China. Today, the company took to its Weibo handle to share key information on the cameras of the iQOO 9 duo.

iQOO confirmed that the iQOO 9 series will be breaking cover as the world’s first smartphone featuring the Samsung GN5 lens. The 50-megapixel camera will be available with micro-PTZ gimbal-OIS on the iQOO 9 Pro. It is unclear whether the vanilla model will get a regular or a gimbal OIS.

The Realme GT2 Pro launching on Jan. 4 will be the world’s first smartphone to feature a 150-degree ultrawide lens. Now, iQOO has revealed that the iQOO 9 Pro’s camera unit will include a 150-degree ultrawide snapper. Like the GT2 Pro, the iQOO 9 Pro will also offer a fisheye mode for shooting ultrawide shots with a longer depth of field effect.

The company did not share any information on the third camera of the iQOO 9 Pro. Reports have claimed that it has a 50-megapixel Samsung GN5 (main) + 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 (ultrawide) + 16-megapixel (telephoto with OIS) triple camera unit.

On the other hand, the iQOO 9’s camera setup is expected to feature a 50-megapixel Samsung GN main camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 telephoto snapper.

The iQOO 9 and 9 Pro are expected to come with some common specs like Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up to 12 GB of RAM, Android 12 OS, and a 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast charging. The Pro model will also offer 50W wireless charging. The iQOO 9 is likely to feature a QHD+ 120Hz 6.78-inch curved AMOLED LTPO display, while the iQOO 9 may house an FHD+ 120Hz 6.78-inch AMOLED screen.
