Samsung Galaxy S23 Series May Support Satellite Communication

The Huawei Mate 50 series and the Apple iPhone 14 lineup support satellite communication. A new report by ET News reveals that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 series will also support satellite communication. The new report reveals that the South Korean tech giant may partner with a company-named Iridium to enable satellite communication on the Galaxy S23 lineup.

Huawei is working with BeiDou satellites, while Apple has teamed up with Global Star to enable satellite connectivity on their recent flagships. Samsung has been reportedly working hard for the past two years to solve the technical problems of satellite communication.

As mentioned above, Samsung may partner with Iridium, which offers voice calling and data communication services via 66 low-orbit satellites, to bring support for satellite connectivity to its flagship phones. Samsung has yet to issue an official confirmation.

The report states that Samsung reportedly aims to enable the transmission of data like text messages and low-resolution, kbps-sized images via satellite communication on the Galaxy S23 lineup. To make voice and high-speed data communication possible, a general smartphone needs to have a bigger RF antenna.

In addition, the technology to process digital data by merging the present mobile communication modem with the satellite communication modem is reported to be largely finished. So, it is possible that the Galaxy S23 line may come equipped with satellite communication features.

Rumors are rife that the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra will debut in February 2023. Reports have claimed that all the markets will receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered edition of the S23 lineup. In other words, there may not be an Exynos chipset variant of the S23 trio. Also, the S23 Ultra will be arriving as Samsung’s first-ever phone with a 200-megapixel camera.
