New rumor suggests no new Moto X in this year

Yesterday, we reported that the Chinese 3C authority had certified an upcoming Moto handset with the model number XT1662 which was previously rumored as the new Moto X (2016) after it made its first debut via GFXBench.

No Moto X (2016)

However according to hellomotohk, there will be no new Moto X smartphone in this year and the recently certified XT1662 device is none other than the yet to be announced Moto M. To some extent, this do make sense given that the entire Moto X series has a profound history of using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon as their main CPU for the past few years. The XT1662 on the other hand, runs on Mediatek’s Helio X10 processor which  doesn’t fits well into the Moto X category. This has contradicted all the past reports of an imminent Moto X (2016).

For now, let’s hope that Lenovo will shed some light on this device during the upcoming pre-IFA event on August 31.
