Official: Huawei Mate 50 Pro will be launching in South Africa on February 1st

After making it’s official debut in the global market last September, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro (Review) will finally be making it’s way to the South African market on February 1st next week.

Succeeding the 2020’s Mate 40 Pro, the Mate 50 Pro brings along a myriad of upgrades that include the all-new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset which promises unparalleled performance for entertainment, multi-tasking and even content creation. The only catch here is the lack of an integrated 5G modem due to the ongoing trade ban.

Nonetheless, the Mate 50 Pro makes up for that with new satellite communications capabilities which allow users to send short messages and location using the BeiDou navigation satellite system. This can be done even if the phone isn’t connected to any active cellular network.

Moving on to what matters most, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro features a versatile triple-camera system lead by a 50 megapixels main camera with OIS stabilization as well as a six-blade variable aperture that ranges between f/1.4 to f/4.0. As for the other two cameras, it include a 64 megapixels telephoto camera with OIS and 3.5x optical zoom, as well as a 13 megapixels ultra-wide unit for landscape photography.

Over on the front side, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro comes with a 6.74” OLED display with 10-bit color depth, 1212 x 2616 pixels screen resolution and a fast 120Hz refresh rate. Here, the phone adopts a physical notch to house a 13 megapixels selfie camera along with a 3D ToF sensing unit.

To keep it’s lights on, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is backed by a respectable 5,000mAh which carries support for 66W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Software-wise, the phone will be covered by Huawei’s latest HarmonyOS 3.0 out of the box.
