ASUS has finally confirmed the launch date of the ROG Phone 5. The smartphone will debut at 7:00 PM (local time) on March 9 in Taipei, which converts 6:00 AM ET on March 10.
A dedicated web page for the upcoming ROG Phone 5 is available at the official website of ASUS’ ROG website. At present, it has no information on the specs and features of the ROG Phone 5. It only shows a countdown for upcoming unveiling event.
The ROG Phone 5 will be arriving as a successor to the ROG Phone 3 from last year. It appears that the company has skipped the ROG Phone 4 moniker as the number 4 is considered as a homonym for ‘death’ in Asian countries.
The Snapdragon 888 mobile platform will be powering the ROG Phone 5. It is expected to arrive with a 6.78-inch OLED display that may offer a 144Hz or higher refresh rate. The device could be fueled by a 6,000mAh dual-cell battery and it may support 65W fast charging.
The rear design of the ROG Phone 5 is interesting as its leaked images have revealed the presence of a dot-matrix screen. The horizontal aligned camera setup of the ROG Phone 5 is expected to feature a 64-megapixel primary camera.
It is speculated that there is another version of the ROG Phone 5. It was seen at TENAA recently with identical specs and a plain rear design. There is a possibility that the Taiwanese company may announce a Snapdragon 888 ROG Phone 5 and a slightly low-powered model. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know more about the ROG Phone 5 models. A recent leak revealed that the smartphone will be heading to India in the coming month.
