ASUS Zenfone 7 & 7 Pro with triple flip camera launched

During a high profile launch event held in Taiwan today, ASUS has officially announced the company’s next generation Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro flagship phones. Unlike the recently launched ROG Phone 3, the Zenfone 7 series shape up to be an all rounded flagship phones that cater towards the mass consumers.

In terms of specs and design, both the ASUS Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro share a huge similarities with some notable differences in its underlying chip and rear cameras system.

At the front, the ASUS Zenfone 7 duo will retain an unblemished AMOLED display free of notches or hole-punches. It will be able to support a rich FHD+ display, smooth 90Hz screen refresh rate, as well as a peak brightness of 1,000 nits for a vibrant and immersive graphical experience.

Over at the back, we will still be greeted by the unique flipping camera which we first saw on last year’s Zenfone 6 series smartphones. What’s interesting is that the flipping camera function as both a rear camera and a selfie camera. This time round however, the Zenfone 7 series has an additional telephoto camera a the back.

Both the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro share the same 64 megapixels Sony IMX 686 primary shooter which is able to capture 8K video footage at 30fps and 4K footage at 120fps. This will be assisted by an 8 megapixels telephoto camera with up to 3x optical zoom, as well as a 12 megapixels Sony IMX 363 ultra wide lens.

For the Zenfone 7 Pro, its primary and telephoto cameras come with optical image stabilization (OIS) support. The Zenfone 7 however, lacks support for optical image stabilization.

Under the hood, the vanilla ASUS Zenfone 7 will be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 865 chipset, while the Zenfone 7 Pro has a slightly buffed up Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Both devices will utilize the latest LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage technologies for it’s memory department.

To keep its light on, the Zenfone 7 series smartphones are fitted with a massive 5,000 mAh battery with 30W fast-charging support. According to ASUS, a 34 minutes charge is sufficient to bring its battery from 0 to 60%.

In the Taiwanese market, the vanilla Zenfone 7 will be available in both 6GB+128 GB and 8GB+128GB models which will be priced at NT$21,990 (US$748) and NT$23,990 (US$816) respectively. The Zenfone 7 Pro on the other hand, is priced at NT$27,990 (US$953) for it’s sole 8GB+256GB model.
