ASUS is reportedly working on the ZenFone 8 series of flagship phones. It will be arriving as the successor to the ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro smartphones that debuted last year. Fresh information shared by XDA Developers reveals that the ZenFone 8 lineup will include as many as three devices.
A few days ago, the “ASUS ZenFone 8 Flip” name was spotted in the Google support document. Fresh information shared by the publication reveals that the ZenFone 8 lineup may include a compact handset named the ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini.
The publication came across codenames such as “SAKE”, “PICASSO”, and “VODKA” in the kernel source code of the recently unveiled ASUS ROG Phone 5 gaming smartphone. While there’s no confirmation whether these codenames belong to the ZenFone 8 series smartphones, but it did came across names like ASUS ZenFone 8 and ASUS ZenFone 8 Flip in the most recent version of the PixelMaster Camera app by ASUS. It was found through the kerel source code that these models are powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
It claimed that the SAKE model could be the ZenFone 8 Mini as it was referred to as “small phone” in ASUS’s software. The smartphone was found to be equipped with 5.92-inch OLED screen withs support for FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The ZenFone 8 Mini may feautre a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel camera and a new Sony IM663 image sensor.
The PICASSO model may come with specs like a 6.67-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ display, a 24-megapixel front camera, and a triple camera setup with a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel main camera, a 12.2-megapixel Sony IMX363 lens, and a Omnivision OV08A 8-megapixel telephoto snapper.
Lastly, very few references of the VODKA model were found in the kernel source code. It remains to be seen whether it arrives in the market with ZenFone 8 Pro moniker.
