Earlier this month, reputable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer had already brought to us the CAD-based renderings of the upcoming Sony Xperia 10 III as well as the new Xperia Compact smartphone.
Now, he’ll be wrapping up the month with a bang by bringing us what will be our first look at the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III – a much anticipated flagship which will go against the likes of other top dogs including the Samsung Galaxy S21+ and the forthcoming OPPO Find X3 Pro.
Based on the high-quality imagery published by Steve on VoiceHQ, the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III doesn’t seems to be coming with any striking differences from its predecessor in terms of appearance. However, he do noted that its overall footprint will be reduced but will be slightly thicker this time round.
Much like the rest of the Xperia smartphones, the new Xperia 1 III sports a flat display which is said to measure 6.5-inches diagonally. To be specific, it’ll be a 4K OLED display that comes along with HDR support. As for its refresh rate, it remains under wrap at the moment.
Over on the flip-side, we’ll be greeted by the usual elongated camera island which play host to a triple-camera setup accompanied by a 3D iToF sensor. These cameras will be featuring ZEISS optics with T* coating (anti-reflective coating) which enhances the quality of the images.
What’s notable according to Steve, is that the triple-camera setup will now include the highly-coveted periscope camera which we believe will offer at least 5x optical zoom since the current Xperia 1 II already supports up to 3x optical zoom.
Along its metal frame, you will be able to find a 3.5mm headphone jack (a feature we don’t usually see among flagship phones), microSDXC slot, Power button which doubles up as a fingerprint scanner, as well as a new shortcut key.
Needless to say, the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III should be coming with the latest Snapdragon 888 chipset which is compatible to both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) 5G modes. In the memory department, we can also expect it to feature at least 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage.
Given that the Xperia 1 II was launched back in February last year, we can expect the Xperia III’s launch to be imminent if the release cycle remain unchanged.
