Last week, Honor finally took the wrap off the highly-anticipated Honor 30 flagship series smartphones which include the Honor 30, Honor 30 Pro and Honor 30 Pro+.
Within a short span of less than a year, we’d seen how much the Honor 30 series had improved over the previous Honor 20 iteration in most of aspects ranging from its front display to its fast-charging capabilities.
Therefore, we could like to take some time to discuss the key differences between last year’s Honor 20 Pro and this year’s Honor 30 Pro in order to paint a better picture for you.
Front Display
As usual, we shall begin with the front display. The recently announced Honor 30 Pro utilizes a FHD+ OLED panel, while the older Honor 20 Pro utilizes an IPS LCD display. As such, the Honor 30 Pro will be able to support an in-display fingerprint sensor instead of a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Camera System
In terms of camera, the Honor 30 Pro will feature a triple-camera setup while the Honor 20 Pro will tout a quad-camera setup. The difference between them lies in the additional macro camera on the Honor 20 Pro.
For the Honor 30 Pro, the device will be equipped with the latest 40MP Sony IMX 600 sensor for its main camera, while the Honor 20 Pro utilizes an older IMX 586 sensor. Although both devices have an 8 megapixels telephoto lens, but the Honor 30 Pro’s telephoto lens has a longer focal length which enable the device to achieve up to 5x optical zoom, and as much as 50x digital zoom. The Honor 20 Pro on the other hand, is only able to achieve up to 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom.
As for the selfie cameras, the Honor 30 Pro has a pair of 32 megapixels main camera and an 8 megapixels ultra-wide lens. The Honor 20 Pro however, only has a single 32 megapixels selfie camera.
Performance
Moving on to its internals, the Honor 30 Pro is driven by the latest Kirin 990 5G SoC, while the Honor 20 Pro is powered by an older Kirin 980 SoC. Since the Honor 30 Pro runs on a 5G-enabled SoC, it will be able to support both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) 5G modes. Other than that, both devices will share a similar 8GB RAM, as well as an option between 128GB/ 256GB onboard storage.
Battery
While both devices shares the same 4,000mAh battery capacity, but they differ between their charging rates. The Honor 30 Pro is able to support up to 40W fast-charging, while the Honor 20 Pro is limited to 22.5W fast-charging. Moreover, only the Honor 30 Pro is able to support reverse charging as well.
