The past two months have been really exciting for the smartphone world especially when there’s so many foldable launches occurring within the short span of time.
The latest addition comes from a young company none other than Honor which has officially launched it’s first foldable smartphone dubbed as the Honor Magic V during a high profile launch event held in the Chinese market.
Just like the recent OPPO Find N, the new Honor Magic V adopts an inward-folding design which allows users to use the device as a smartphone when folded, and as a tablet when it’s fully unfolded.
Let’s begin with it’s cover display – a vibrant 6.45” OLED display that offers a FHD+ screen resolution with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate as well as 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. The main highlight however, lies in it’s 21:9 aspect ratio that offers a similar smartphone experience as a regular smartphone.
When fully unfolded, the Honor Magic V is able to deliver a tablet-like experience with a 7.9” OLED display that supports 2,272 × 1,984 pixels screen resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. That’s in fact slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3’s 7.6” inner display.
Other than that, it also retains support for 10-bit color depth and HDR10+ contents which bring along a more realistic and immersive viewing experience that makes it an ideal entertainment companion.
Moving on to the rear cover, we’ll find a rectangular-shaped camera bump which houses a total of three cameras in it. These cameras are said to include a 50 megapixels main camera, 50 megapixels ultra-wide unit, as well as a 50MP spectrum enhanced camera.
Rounded out it’s impressive camera hardware is a pair of 42 megapixels cameras on both the cover and inner display to help with selfie and video calling purposes. In short, the Honor Magic V is one model that places a huge emphasize on photography.
Under the hood, the Honor Magic V will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB built-in storage. Likewise, the phone is also backed by a respectable 4,750mAh battery with 66W fast-charging support.
In terms of software, the Honor Magic V will ship with the new Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12 OS right off the box. It’ll be available in a trio of colors such as Titanium Silver, Black, Burnt Orange.
Although the global pricing of the phone has yet to be announced, but we do know that the Honor Magic V will be priced at 9,999 Yuan (US$1,570) and 10,999 Yuan (US$1,725) respectively for it’s 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB variants.
