HONOR Magic V6 Review: The Evolution of an Exceptional Foldable

There’s always a sense of anticipation whenever HONOR unveils a new foldable, especially after spending the past year using the HONOR Magic V5 as my daily driver. It has consistently impressed me with its slim design, dependable performance, and polished software experience, making it one of the best foldables I’ve used to date. Naturally, I was curious to see how HONOR could improve on an already strong foundation. With the Magic V6, the answer isn’t about reinventing the formula, but refining almost every aspect of it. The improvements may appear subtle at first glance, but after spending time with the device, they become much easier to appreciate.

One of the first things I noticed was how familiar, yet more confidence-inspiring, the Magic V6 feels in hand. HONOR has managed to keep the device remarkably slim, measuring just 8.75mm when folded and as thin as 4.0mm when unfolded on the Ivory White model, making it feel surprisingly close to a traditional smartphone despite its foldable design. Compared to the Magic V5, the overall build feels even more reassuring, thanks to the introduction of the HONOR Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, a reinforced Super Armored inner display, and an upgraded Super Steel Hinge rated for up to 500,000 folds. The addition of both IP68 and IP69 ratings also gives it an edge in durability, making it feel better prepared for everyday life than its predecessor.

HONOR also offers the Magic V6 in Ferghana Red, Sunrise Gold, Ivory White, and Classic Black. Whichever finish you choose, the large circular camera module remains the defining feature of the rear design. Rather than feeling oversized, it complements the phone’s symmetrical styling and reinforces its flagship identity. It’s a design that has evolved naturally from the Magic V5, retaining what worked while feeling more refined in both appearance and build quality.

The dual-display experience continues to be one of the Magic V6’s greatest strengths. The 6.52-inch outer OLED display feels like using a premium flagship smartphone, while unfolding it reveals a stunning 7.95-inch foldable OLED panel that transforms the experience entirely. Both displays support adaptive 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rates, offer excellent colour reproduction, and reach impressive brightness levels of up to 6000 nits on the cover display and 5000 nits on the inner screen. During everyday use, the crease quickly fades into the background, allowing the expansive display to take centre stage whether I’m editing photos, reading documents, or simply multitasking between several apps.

Performance is also exactly what you’d expect from a flagship foldable. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 alongside 16GB of RAM, the Magic V6 feels exceptionally fluid throughout daily use. What stood out to me wasn’t simply how quickly apps opened, but how effortlessly the phone adapted between the outer and inner displays. Multitasking feels genuinely useful on the larger screen, and features like Smart Multi-window and One-swipe Split make working across multiple apps feel intuitive instead of complicated. Even after extended periods of use, the overall experience remained smooth and responsive, giving the impression of a device that’s been carefully optimised for its unique form factor.

Battery life is another area where HONOR has quietly raised the bar. The larger 6660mAh silicon-carbon battery is a noticeable improvement over the Magic V5, and despite the expansive inner display, I rarely found myself worrying about running low before the end of the day. Even on heavier days filled with photography, video streaming, navigation, and multitasking, there was usually enough charge left to comfortably finish the day. When it finally came time to recharge, the combination of 80W wired and 66W wireless HONOR SuperCharge meant I was back up and running surprisingly quickly.

The camera system continues to be one of HONOR’s strongest selling points. The Magic V6 combines a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, a 64MP telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom, alongside a 50MP ultra-wide camera. On paper, the hardware closely resembles the Magic V5, but image processing feels more refined, producing photos with natural colours, strong dynamic range, and impressive consistency across different lighting conditions.

The telephoto camera was one I found myself returning to frequently. The 3x optical zoom offers a practical focal length for portraits and distant subjects, while the extended digital zoom provides additional flexibility whenever it’s needed. Portraits benefit from pleasing background separation, while landscapes retain a satisfying amount of detail throughout the frame. Low-light photography also performs confidently, with the camera preserving detail without pushing brightness to unrealistic levels.

Taking everything into account, the HONOR Magic V6 feels less like a dramatic overhaul and more like the result of HONOR carefully listening to feedback and refining an already outstanding foldable. It builds upon the strengths of the Magic V5 with meaningful improvements to durability, battery life, display protection, and the overall user experience, while maintaining the slim profile that made the device stand out in the first place.

Priced at S$2,599 in Singapore, the HONOR Magic V6 confidently earns its place among today’s best foldable smartphones. For existing Magic V5 users, the upgrade may not be essential unless the improved durability and battery life are high on the priority list. However, for anyone looking to step into the foldable category — or upgrading from an older generation — the Magic V6 delivers one of the most complete, refined, and enjoyable foldable experiences HONOR has created to date.

For those who’re interested, the HONOR Magic V6 is available for purchase via all HONOR Experience Stores, HONOR’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop, selected authorised retailers including Harvey Norman, Best Denki, Courts, Gain City, Challenger, KrisShop, and Popular, as well as telco partners M1, Singtel, and StarHub.
