Huami announces a smart wearable AI chip

Recently, CEO of Huami Technologies, Huang Wah, came to Taiwan to unveil the Taiwan version of Xiaomi Mi Band 3. The Xiaomi eco-chain company announced its new product series and launched the new Amazfit band. In addition to the AMAZFIT smartwatch and AMAZFIT Mi Health Band 1S, the company also announced the launch of the first intelligent wearable device chip “Huangshan No. 1” combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The “Huangshan No. 1”, which was announced for research and development, will integrate the RISC-V instruction set architecture with open source design, emphasizing 38% higher execution efficiency than the ARM Cortex-M4, and also has better power saving performance. The 55nm process is used for its build and the first wave of filming trials has been completed. It is expected to be commercially available in products from the first half of 2019.

As it will integrate the application of artificial intelligence technology with more efficient and energy-saving operation features, it is expected to enable Huami to create a smart wearable device that is closer to user requirements and has a longer standby time. It will also support Always On feature. The display controller allows the smart wearable device to constantly display the necessary information content in a lower power consumption manner, and it is compatible with ECG electrocardiogram recording, heart rate measurement and can give other health-related data.

It is reported that the ‘Huangshan No. 1’ integrates an ultra-low power sensor data collection module to automatically transfer sensor data to internal SRAM, making data storage performance faster and more stable. The ‘Huangshan No. 1’ was also highly recognized by Zhang Hongjiang, former vice managing director of Microsoft Research Asia. He said

‘Huami Technology has released the world’s first AI chip Huangshan No. 1 in the field of wearables with its continued exploration and accumulation in the artificial intelligence. For the first time on the wearable device, the AI has been implemented from the cloud to the front. It supports real-time biometric identification, real-time warning of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmia functions. The birth of this AI chip marks the first time that deep learning technology has landed on smart wearable devices, which is of great significance to the AI field.’

The new Amazfit smartwatch maintains the appearance of a sports watch. It comes with a detachable anti-fouling strap accessory, which has a black, blue and white color matching option. The display is 1.3 inches with a diameter of 43mm. The round AMOLED screen has a resolution of 360 x 360 and it is protected by a Corning Gorilla 3 tempered glass. The overall thickness is 12.6mm and it supports IP68 waterproof function. The watch itself uses a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, and 4GB storage capacity. It supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, built-in GPS, GLONASS positioning function, and a 390mAh battery capacity which delivers about 5 days of working time.
