Huawei is expected to announce a new foldable phone later this year. It is unclear whether the new Mate foldable smartphone will debut with Huawei Mate 40 series in September or October this year. According to LetsGoDigital, Huawei filed for the “Huawei Mate V” moniker with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Hence, it appears that the next foldable phone from Huawei could be called Huawei Mate V.
The new moniker reminds of Samsung’s new strategy of renaming its upcoming Galaxy Fold smartphone. While the rumor mill has been calling it Galaxy Fold 2 for several months, a new report has claimed that it could be called Galaxy Z Fold 2. In fact, all the upcoming foldable phones could be filed under the Galaxy Z branding.
Coming back to the Huawei Mate V, the company could be adopting the name instead of calling it Mate X series because of its new design. The Huawei Mate X and Mate Xs that were launched by the company were equipped with fold-out design. Speculations are rife that Huawei’s next foldable phone could be coming with a design that allows users to open it like a book similar to the Galaxy Fold from Samsung. The letter V in the Mate V moniker appears to look like a book that can be opened and closed.
In April, Huawei had filed a patent for a fold-in design. The patent images showed a large-sized display. It also features an outer screen.
The backside of the device is shown with a quad-camera system. It fourth lens looks like a periscope zoom sensor. Nothing is known on the specs of the Mate V. It could be fueled by the Kirin 1000 flagship chipset.
