During the official launch event of the Hauwei Mate Xs foldable phone, Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group had dropped the bombshell that the highly anticipated Huawei P40 flagship series will debut on March 26th.
Now, Huawei has officially confirmed that the P40 flagship series will be announced via an online launch event on March 26th. Therefore, there wouldn’t be any physical launch event this year due to the influx of coronavirus cases across Europe.
The short teaser released by Huawei also hints on the camera prowess of the upcoming P40 flagship series as the company claimed that the device will arrive with “Visionary Photography” capabilities.
According to earlier reports, the P40 series could have a total of 3 flagship devices including the Huawei P40, P40 Pro, as well as an ultra high-end model known as P40 Pro Premium.
Here’s a quick summary of what we’d learned about the P40 flagship series so far:
Huawei P40 (ANA-AN00/ ANA-TN00)
According to an earlier leaked render of the Huawei P40, the device will feature a pill-shaped cut-out on the top-left corner which houses a total of two camera sensors. This is pretty similar to what we’d seen on the recently announced Huawei Nova 6 and Honor V30 .
On it’s flip-side, there will be a rectangular camera module that houses a triple-camera setup which are believed to be a main shooter, ultra-wide lens, as well as a ToF lens.
The Leica-branded camera will also be accompanied by a dual-tone LED flash housed within the same module. Seen in the render above, the camera module makes a slight protrusion from the device’s rear panel.
Huawei P40 Pro (ELS-AN00/ ELS-TN00)
The Huawei P40 Pro on the other hand, will feature a more pronounced curves along the two sides of it’s front panel as compared to the P40.
On it’s rear panel, the rectangular camera module will house a total of four camera sensors which are believed to be a main shooter, Cine Lens, telephoto lens, as well as a ToF sensor.
According to rumors, the P40 Pro could feature a 52 megapixels Sony-made “Quad Quad Bayer” sensor. This basically means it will make use of two 4-in-1 Quad Bayer conversions to achieve a 16-in-1 pixel-binned image.
Huawei P40 Pro Premium
As mentioned earlier, the Huawei P40 Pro Premium will be the highest-end model among the trio. This device will have a penta-camera setup, with an inclusion of a periscope camera that is capable of achieving up to 10x optical zoom.
Unlike the other smartphones in the P40 series, the P40 Pro Premium is said to arrive with an exclusive ceramic body as well.
