Last year, Huawei had launched the Kirin 970 SoC that were first seen on Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro smartphones. Since then the Chinese manufacturer has plenty couple premium and affordable Huawei and Honor branded flagship phones with Kirin 970. The Chinese manufacturer is heavily pegged to power the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro arriving in October with the unannounced Kirin 980. A fresh report has surfaced to reveal the specs that arrive on the upcoming flagship SoC from the company.
According to IT Home that cites information from Digitimes claims that the Kirin 980 SoC will be equipped with four cores of Cortex A77 and four core of Cortex A53. The SoC could be built by TSMC by its 7nm FinFET process which suggests that it will be arriving on to take on the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC that is pegged to go official by the end of 2018.
The SoC is rumored to feature first ever GPU from Huawei. It is speculated that its performance will be 1.5 times faster than Adreno 630 present inside Snapdragon 845 SoC. Like last year, Cambricorn Technologies is expected to provide Huawei with second-generation NPU unit for handling AI tasks. The AI unit is speculated to deliver up to 5 trillion calculations per watt.
