Earlier this week, Lenovo’s VP Chang Cheng had tendered his resignation after 19 years of service at Lenovo Group. According to reports, the resignation is said to be due to family matters.
His departure from Lenovo Group came weeks after the firm’s founder-chairman Liu Chuanzhi retired from his post.
However, shortly after he left his role at Lenovo, he made an official announcement on his Chinese Weibo microblog that he’d joined Xiaomi Group as the company’s VP.
He will be responsible for mobile products planning under his new role at the Chinese smartphone giant.
During his tenure at Lenovo Group, Chang Cheng was the mastermind behind the growth of the firm’s smartphone business in both the budget and high-end segments.
Similarly, he was also the co-founder and CEO of ZUK – a lenovo sub-brand which flagship-grade smartphones targeted at the youthful population.
With his level of experience and expertise in the mobile sector, his departure is definitely a loss for Lenovo’s smartphone department and a gain for Xiaomi.
Looks like 2020 will be an exciting year for Xiaomi.
