MediaTek Announces May 7 Online Launch Event

Today, MediaTek took to Weibo to confirm that it will be holding an online launch event in China on May 7. It is dubbed as “5G All-inclusive” machine-translated event. It seems that the Taiwanese chipset may announce a new 5G chipset.

In December 2019, MediaTek announce Dimensity 1000 5G chipset for powering the flagship phones. However, there are no Dimensity 1000 5G chipset powered smartphones in the market yet.

The less powerful Dimensity 1000L was introduced first on the Reno3 5G smartphone that was unveiled in December 2019. Currently, it is one of the most powerful chipsets for second-tier phones that are less powerful than the flagship devices.

The MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G which is a 7nm chipset for budget-friendly phones was unveiled in January. The recently unveiled OPPO A92s is the first smartphone ever to feature the Dimensity 800 chipset. It is speculated that the upcoming mid-ranger from Redmi could be also fueled by the Dimensity 800 5G.

Coming back to the MediaTek’s upcoming unveil event, there is no clear information on what will be unveiled on the said date. The event will be held at 2:30 PM (local time) in China. Some reports claim that the company may unveil some more information on the Dimensity 1000 SoC.
