MediaTek has announced the all new Helio P90 chipset through a media event in China. The new SoC comes with improved AI capabilities and better features for powering mid-range smartphones.
The Helio P90 is a 12nm chipset by MediaTek like Helio P70 and Helio P60 SoCs that were announced earlier this year. The octa-core chipset includes a pair of Cortex A75 processors with processing speeds of 2.2 GHz. The six Cortex A55 CPUs have clocking speeds of 2.0 GHz. The PowerVR GM9446 is available for graphics. It offers 50 percent improved graphics performance than the Helio P70.
The AI processing unit (APU) offers fourfold better performance than Helio P60 and Helio P70. It will play an important role in improving photography experience on affordable handsets. The SoC supports a single camera of 48-megapixel or a dual camera setup of 24-megapixela and 16-megapixel. The highest resolution that will be supported by Helio P90 chip powered phone is 2520 x 1080 pixels with an aspect ratio of 21:9.
The Helio P90 is also equipped with support Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4×4 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, 3CA, Cat. 12 DL / Cat. 13 UL. The first smartphones powered by Helio P90 is expected to release in the first quarter of 2019. It is speculated that the OPPO R19 will be the first phone to feature it.
