Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be launching the Mi Max 2 on May 25. A Weibo post has revealed that Xiaomi may announce MIUI 9 software update at the same launch event.
It has been one year since the launch of MIUI 8 update. Last year, Xiaomi had launched the MIUI 8 alongside Mi Max phablet in May. The above Weibo post suggests MIUI 9 and Mi Max 2 are both unveiling on May 25. However, the Mi Max 2 may not be the first smartphone to feature it.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has previously mentioned on Weibo that the MIUI 9 will be smoother, more stable and more powerful compared to MIUI 8. Recently, PlayfulDroid had reported that the MIUI 9 would be coming with features like split-screen and picture-in-picture (PIP). The new features are expected to hit Xiaomi devices like Mi 6, Mi 5c, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 4, Mi 4C, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, and also Mi Pad 3 tablet. A screen recorder feature is also expected to debut on MIUI 9.
