New iPhone with In-Screen Touch ID, Smaller Notch Rumored for China

With the launch of iPhone X in 2017, Apple bid goodbye to Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The iPhone models from 2017 towards have featured large-sized notch for housing the complex face recognition system for the Face ID feature. A Chinese publication has claimed that Apple is working on a new iPhone for specially for the China.

The report reveals that the iPhone that is reportedly in works for China will not be featuring Face ID. If there is no Face ID, it goes without saying that Apple will be able to significantly reduce the size of its notch. The report that sites information acquired from supply chain claims that the alleged iPhone will have an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

With the growing popularity of Chinese brands such as Huawei, Vivo and OPPO in China in all price segments, the popularity of iPhones has been consistently declining. Probably, a tailored iPhone for the Chinese audience featuring an in-screen fingerprint scanner may help in sustaining its market share.

The under-display fingerprint reader components are cheaper than the Face ID technology. The rumored iPhone for China featuring in-display fingerprint sensor may arrive with a cheaper price tag. Apple had released physical dual-SIM version of iPhone XS and iPhone XR last year while other markets received the same phones with support a physical SIM and an eSIM. Hence, there is a possibility that an iPhone with new display Touch ID could be works.
