During the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017 tech trade show, Vivo had demonstrated the under-display fingerprint scanner. Previous rumors have claimed that the new fingerprint technology will be made available on the Vivo Xplay7 smartphone. However, fresh information suggests that Vivo may launch new variants of the recently launch Vivo X20 and X20 Plus smartphones with in-screen fingerprint scanner.
The Vivo X20Plus UD has appeared on China’s 3C certification website. The UD in the name of the phone refers to “under display” fingerprint scanner. The model number of the phone is BK1124 and it carries support for 4G LTE and fast charging. There is no information on specifications of the alleged phone. However, it is speculated that the new variant of X20 and X20 Plus may include the same specs as the original models.
In December 2017, Synaptics had confirmed that it is testing its Clear ID under-display fingerprint scanner with Vivo. It is designed to be used beneath OLED panels. Since the Vivo X20 and X20 Plus are equipped AMOLED screens, it is speculated that the Clear ID would be made available in the new variants of those phones. There is no confirmation on it, but the company may showcase the smartphone at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2018 in the next week or Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event in February.
