Official: iQOO 9 Series debuts with new generation’s design & chipset

Although the iQOO 8 series smartphones were announced barely four months ago, but that didn’t stops the company from introducing the new generation’s iQOO 9 series smartphones that comes with a whole new design along with various upgrades which put them level with other top dogs such as the recent Realme GT 2 and Xiaomi 12 series.

The company announced a total of two models during today’s launch event including the vanilla iQOO 9 as well as a higher-end iQOO 9 Pro. Without further ado, let’s check out what these devices have in store for us!

iQOO 9 Pro

Starting off with the more expensive model, we have the iQOO 9 Pro which sports a 6.78” Samsung E5 AMOLED (LTPO 2.0) display which offers a super sharp QHD+ screen resolution and a fast 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that makes animations and scrolling felt buttery-smooth.

On the rear side, the iQOO 9 Pro had gotten a substantiate facelift which allows us to easily differentiate it from it’s predecessor. In fact, the design of it’s camera housing is quite obviously inspired by last year’s Vivo X70 Pro+ which matches well with the overall design of the phone.

For photography, the phone features triple-camera setup comprising of a 50 megapixels Samsung GN5 main camera with Gimbal-style stabilization system along with another 50 megapixels ultra-wide unit with 150-degree FoV, and finally a 16 megapixels telephoto portrait lens. This will be rounded out by a 16 megapixels front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Under the hood, the iQOO 8 Pro is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB built-in storage in the memory department. Software-wise, the iQOO 8 series smartphones are the first batch of phones from iQOO to be shipped with the new OriginOS Ocean based on Android 12 OS. Other than that, it’s also backed by a respectable 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast-charging support.

Those who’re interested in the phone can choose between a premium-looking Orange Vegan Leather edition or the more sporty BMW M Motorsport Edition model. Pricing for the phone will start at 4,999 Yuan (US$787) for it’s 8GB+256GB trim in the Chinese market.

Moving on to the iQOO 9, this model comes with a 6.78” Samsung E5 AMOLED display which features a slightly toned-down FHD+ screen resolution and 120Hz (non-adaptive) refresh rate. It does however, retains the in-display fingerprint scanner as well as the 16 megapixels front-facing camera.

iQOO 9 Color Options

On the imaging front, the iQOO 9 settles with a triple-cam unit that includes a 50 megapixels Samsung GN5 main camera, 13 megapixels ultra-wide camera as well as a 12 megapixels portrait lens.

Just like it’s Pro counterpart, the iQOO 9 is also powered by a flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. In fact, it’s similarities also extend to the same 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast-charging.

Unlike the iQOO 9 Pro, the iQOO 9 actually comes with an additional Black color option to choose from. As expected, the phone will available at a slightly more affordable starting price of 3,999 Yuan (US$629) for it’s 8GB+256GB model.
