Nothing, a London-based tech startup which previously made headlines for it’s revolutionary TWS earbuds – Nothing Ear (1) – has officially announced it’s first-ever smartphone in the Malaysian market dubbed as the Nothing Phone (1) which had stirred up quite a bit of hype across social medias over the past couple weeks.
Much like the Nothing Ear (1), one of the main highlight of the new Nothing Phone (1) lies in it’s creative and innovative design that looks unlike any of the smartphones in the market, giving the phone an unique identity which stands out from the crowd. Moreover, the device itself also place emphasize on Eco-friendliness as it comes with a recycled aluminum frame which not only improves the device’s durability, but also keep it’s weight down.
The phone builds around a standard-sized 6.55” OLED display offering a sharp-looking FHD+ screen resolution accompanied by a fast 120Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling and animation felt smoother than before. To sweeten up the deal, the front display also supports up to 1,200 nits peak brightness which ensures the screen remains visible even when using the phone in an environment with strong ambient light.
Coming to the imaging side of things, the Nothing Phone (1) features a dual-cam system on the rear plate comprising of a 50 megapixels (f/1.88 aperture) Sony IMX766 imaging sensor as the main camera as well as a 50 megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) Samsung JN1 sensor which serves as an ultra-wide unit with 114-degrees FoV. This will be rounded out by a 16 megapixels front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Sitting at the heart of the phone is none other than a 5G-enabled Snapdragon 778G+ chipset which will be paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB built-in storage which doesn’t supports microSD card for storage expansion. It will run on a custom Nothing OS (1) based on the latest Android 12 OS right off the box.
Keeping it’s lights on is a 4,500mAh battery that brings support for 33W fast-charging support which is able to achieve a full charge in approximately 70 minutes. The phone however, will not be shipped with a bundled charger even though you can purchase an official 45W charging adapter just in case you need one.
Pricing for the Nothing Phone (1) starts from RM2,399 ($539) for the 8GB+256GB base model and goes up to RM2,699 ($606) for the top-of-the-line model with an upgraded 12GB+256GB configuration.
