OnePlus 5 is a Water-Resistant Phone, But OnePlus Didn’t Get it IP Certified

OnePlus 5 was officially introduced on June 20. One of the missing features of OnePlus 5 is that it lacks a IP rating. A new report claims that even though the company does not say it officially, OnePlus 5 is a waterproof device just as iPhone 6S is a waterproof even though Apple did not advertise it.

All the recent flagships such as Apple iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, HTC U11 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium all come with IPX7 or IP X8 rating. If the SIM card holder features a rubber gasket (as seen on iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8), it could be present as a sealing so that the water does not seep inside. This suggests that OnePlus 6 could be a water-resistant phone.

It has been found that OnePlus 5 could have received IP 67 certification, but the company chose not to apply for it. It is probably because does not want to take the responsibility of water damage to OnePlus 5. An IP 67 rating means the phone can remain submerged in 1 meter deep water for 30 minutes without getting damaged.
